PFP Credit Union

The People for People Community Development Credit Union is a member-owned financial institution whose primary purpose is to promote the financial well being of its low-income community in North Central Philadelphia through progressive and comprehensive services, which it has done since August, 2001. The PFP Credit Union Field of Membership covers a 14.3 square mile section of this city which is characterized by extensive blight, high unemployment, a majority of income-poor and asset-poor residents, few homeowners and a majority of single parent families, all with special financial needs often unmet by traditional financial institutions.

Our programs promote and improve consumer financial independence through: (1) financial literacy education and counseling, (2) homeownership counseling, (3) partnerships that extend the credit union’s reach into a specific underserved market, (4) individual development accounts (IDA’s), (5) check cashing services, (6) the federally-subsidized and matched SEED savings accounts for youth, (7) first accounts services to the un-banked and (8) the “Better Choice” Payday Loan for member emergencies which provides an alternative to other predatory lending sources.
